The point of the "Go, Glow, Grow" curriculum is to explain what different types of foods do for the human body. According to the UCCE, "go" foods supply carbohydrates that provide the energy kids use to engage in physical activities. "glow" foods have vitamins and minerals that keep the body functioning properly and make hair and eyes lustrous. "Grow" foods contain nutrients, such as protein, that support and maintain the muscles and strong bones that promote healthy development in children.
Objectives of the curriculum include teaching children about healthy food identification, the benefits of eating certain foods, the importance of living active lifestyles, the importance of hand washing and developing lifelong eating habits.
There are six lessons in the curriculum, all of which are based on the MyPyramid food guides. Teachers instruct kids how to navigate through lessons on each subject, which include recipes on each topic. Take-home lessons allow children to bring information about healthy eating home to their parents for further study.Learn more about Food Facts
