Colombia is renowned for the legendary city of El Dorado, its sought-after emeralds, world-class coffee, tropical climate and the country's capital city of Bogota in the Andean plateau. The small Latin American nation is also infamous for its drug cartels, which were built into an empire by the notorious Colombian narcotics czar Pablo Escobar Gaviria.
Colombia is located in the northern region of the South American continent, bordering Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Venezuela.
