A bout 90 percent of India's population speaks one of the languages of the Indo Aryan and Dravidian language families. For example, Tamil is spoken by about 6 percent of the population and is the state language of Tamil Nadu. Those living in West Bengal primarily speak the state language of Bengali, which makes up about 8 percent of India's population.
