Create a strong letter of recommendation for a prospective immigrant by formatting it in a professional way and including all pertinent information. The letter writer should introduce himself, identify his relationship to the prospective immigrant, and outline the positive qualities of the prospective immigrant.
- Format the letter
Type the letter in a word-processing program on a computer, using simple business formatting with single spacing between lines and double spacing between paragraphs. The letter writer should place his name, address, phone number and email address in the upper left corner. Below that, place the date, two line spaces and the contact information of the recipient.
- Write the letter
Open the letter with a formal greeting. In the beginning, the letter writer should include his own immigration status, the relationship to the prospective immigrant, and the amount of time that the writer has known the immigrant.
- Include pertinent information
The letter writer should include his affiliation with any prominent organizations in addition to any extraordinary skills, abilities or accomplishments of the prospective immigrant. Also, include the applicant's involvement with charities or volunteer organizations and stories that illustrate his dependability and willingness to help family, friends, neighbors or co-workers.
- Close the letter
Close the letter with a complimentary closing such as "Sincerely," or "Respectfully yours." Additionally, the letter writer should type and sign his name at the bottom of the letter.
