In order to lose weight, a person must burn more calories in a day than she consumes. Therefore, diet and exercise are ideal for spurring weight loss. If you want to specifically lose weight in the belly and chest region, The Arizona Republic recommends performing exercises that strengthen the core, shoulders, arms and chest.
When dieting, many people focus solely on lowering their caloric intake. While this is sometimes effective, balance your diet instead by incorporating all of the food groups and allowing yourself a little wiggle room to splurge on your favorite foods. According to The Arizona Republic, these changes will create a diet which suits your daily life and is easier to keep up with while also lowering the number of calories you consume.
In order to get the most out of your workout, The Arizona Republic recommends starting with cardio activity, like running, jumping rope or riding a bike. It is best to elevate the heart rate for at least 30 minutes. Once the heart rate is up, perform strength training exercises for the belly and chest area. Pick out three or four exercises that target the core, chest, shoulders and arms. Do three sets of 12 to 15 repetitions. Try to vary these exercises on a daily basis, as the muscles respond better to variety.
