Full Answer

The Potawatomi tribes made their home in the Great Lakes area for about four hundred years. This changed not only with the arrival of white European settlers, but also attacks from the Iroquois tribes as well. From the 1640s to the early 1700s, the Iroquois displaced this tribe and many others to take advantage of the fur trade, but the Potawtomi moved back to many of their original areas after the threat faded.
