Q:

Who was president in 1910?

A:

William Howard Taft was president of the United States in 1910. Elected in 1908 as the 27th president, he served only one term from 1909 until 1913.

President Taft was born Sept. 15, 1857. He was a lawyer, judge, law professor and Secretary of War under President Theodore Roosevelt, who supported Taft's candidacy to succeed him. Ironically, Roosevelt formed his own political party, the Bull Moose Party, and ran against Taft in the election of 1912. Roosevelt did not win, but his candidacy took support away from Taft, allowing Woodrow Wilson to win the election. Taft's term in office saw the 16th Amendment passed, which allowed the United States to collect income taxes and admitted Arizona and New Mexico to the nation.
