Leather moccasins can be made at home using leather, scissors, an awl, a needle and sturdy thread. Additional decorations are optional.Know More
Moccasins were used as footwear by natives in all parts of the New World. They can be made from any kind of heavyweight leather.
Step 1: Cut out the sole
Trace the foot with a border of roughly 1 inch to allow for stitching. The border should be slightly larger at the toes and heel.
Step 2: Cut out the vamp
The vamp is the top part of the moccasin. It should be as long as the distance from the top of the big toe to the beginning of the instep. Its width should be about 1/4 inch wider than the widest part of the foot.
Step 3: Cut out the back
The back should be about 4 inches tall, and long enough to overlap with the vamp by 1/2 inch or so.
Step 4: Punch holes for the thread
Use an awl to punch an even row of holes about 1/4 inch apart alongside the edges of the sole, the back and the front edges of the vamp. The holes in the sole piece should be slightly farther apart than those on the back and vamp.
Step 5: Sew the moccasin together
Use a needle and sturdy thread to saddle stitch the shoe together.Learn more about Sewing
