Q:

How do you make a paper boat in terms of art for kids?

A:

A paper boat for children can be made by simply folding a piece of paper. You need a piece of rectangular paper for this project, and you should be finished within 10 minutes. These boats, if made correctly, will float.

  1. Fold the paper

Lay your paper flat on the folding surface, and then fold the paper in half lengthwise. Fold the paper in half again, and lightly make a crease near the top.

  2. Unfold the paper

Unfold the second fold you made, and lay down the paper so the crease is on the opposite side from you. Fold the top two corners inward toward the crease. There should be a little bit of paper that hangs below these new folds.

  3. Lift up the flaps from the bottom

Take each flap that is on the bottom of your paper, and fold them upwards, one on each side toward the triangular point. Use your fingers to open the pocket that is formed. It should look like a paper hat.

  4. Push the corners of the hat toward each other

The edges of the brim should be pushed outward during this fold, so tuck corner one under the other on each side. The paper should be shaped like a diamond at this point.

  5. Fold the corners upward

Take the lower corner of the diamond, and fold it upward toward the top of the diamond. Repeat this step for the other side. You should have a triangle-shaped piece of paper that is open at the bottom.

  6. Push the opposite corners of the triangle toward each other

This should create another diamond that is open at the bottom and that has a vertical seam on both sides. Pull the left and right edges of the diamond outward. This produces the basic shape of the boat.

  7. Fold the bottom of the boat toward the top

Flatten the paper with this fold. This is so that the base of the boat is flat. Pull outward from the previous fold, and your boat should be complete.
