Arm & Hammer Essentials is a line of cleaning products that includes Arm & Hammer baking soda and a combination of traditional ingredients and naturally based herbal ingredients, such as comfrey root, and essential oils, such as rosemary oil and lavender oil. Types of Arm & Hammer Essentials products include clumping cat litter, laundry products and underarm deodorant.
Although the products include natural ingredients, they are not all 100 percent natural. Some Essentials products may also include some chemicals. For example, Essentials Deodorant does not have aluminum or parabens, but it does include triclosan, which is an antibacterial chemical. Consumers should read the label carefully to make sure the products don’t contain any ingredients that may irritate skin or that the consumer would rather avoid.
The company, which has a history dating back to 1846 when Austin Church and John Dwight first created sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), started making phosphate-free laundry detergent in the 1970s. Its fragrance-free Essentials liquid laundry detergent earned the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval in 2006. The formula was created from plant-based, biodegradable soaps. The Essentials Free formulas are free of dyes, bleaches, fragrances and petroleum-based cleaners. Other formulas may include dyes and naturally derived fragrances.
