All that is needed to clean a burnt pot are baking soda, water, a wooden spoon and some heat, according to Steven and Chris at CBC. Scrape out as much of the stuck food as possible with a wooden spoon. Sprinkle baking soda over the bottom of the pan, using a proportion of about 2 tablespoons of baking soda per cup of water.
After sprinkling the baking soda, add enough water to the pot until it covers all of the burnt areas by about an inch. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon. Bring the pot to a boil, and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat, and discard the water. Use a wooden spoon to scrape out any remaining burnt food particles, which should easily come right off. If any burnt-in stains remain, sprinkle the bottom of the pot once again with baking soda. Add a little water to the baking soda to form a paste. Use a non-abrasive pot scrubber to scrub out any remaining stains, according to CBC.
Never use anything sharp or abrasive, such as a metal spoon or knife or an abrasive scrubbing pad. These items can permanently scratch the bottom of the pot, causing foods to easily stick. This method eliminates the need to soak overnight, according to CBC.
