Regardless of the cause of an odor, removing it is usually possible. Air fresheners may help temporarily, but there are better solutions. Use a rag, bleach, water, baking soda, a vacuum and coffee grounds to eliminate natural odors.
Clean obscure household areas
Use a solution that is 1 part bleach to 10 parts water to clean the house. Focus on areas that have been neglected in previous cleaning sessions.
Open all of the windows
On a day with pleasant weather, open all of the windows. Give your home a chance to air out for an hour or more.
Utilize baking soda
Sprinkle baking soda on all of the carpets, rugs and furniture. Allow it to sit for an extended period of time. Baking soda works better as time passes, so leave it for at least a few hours or more. Attach a fresh bag to your vacuum, then vacuum up all of the baking soda.
Absorb the odor with coffee grounds
Depending on the room size, fill two to four small bowls with coffee grounds. Place them throughout the room, then shut all of the windows and doors. Allow the coffee grounds to absorb the smell overnight, and then discard the grounds in the morning. Repeat as necessary until the odor is gone.
