The hole in a hollow-core door can be filled with expanding foam, sanded and covered with a vinyl spackling compound. Restore the look of the door by painting it over.Know More
Many interior rooms in a home have lightweight, hollow-core doors. These doors serve well for providing some privacy, but can be damaged more easily than an exterior door. Rather than putting up with a hole or puncture in the side of a hollow-core door, it is possible to restore its appearance with a few simple steps.
Cut away the broken bits of wood around the hole in the door. Put down a drop cloth on the floor to catch any debris.
Use expanding foam to fill the inside of the hollow core door just behind the hole in the wood. It isn't necessary to fill the entire door, only the broken spot. Allow the foam to dry overnight and scrape away any foam that expanded outside the hole.
Cover the patch in the door with a small amount of vinyl spackling compound. Allow the compound to dry and sand it flat to the wood surface with a fine grit sandpaper. Finish with a coating of paint.
