How do you remove a color bleed stain?

Remove color bleed stains by soaking the stained garments in an oxygen-based bleach solution repeatedly and washing the clothes with vinegar. This can take several hours, depending on how long the items have to soak. You need an oxygen-based bleach, cool water, a washing machine and white distilled vinegar.

  1. Make an oxygen-based bleach solution

Purchase an oxygen-based bleach. Following the manufacturer's label, add the proper amount of bleach to cold water.

  2. Soak the garments

Place the stained garments in the bleach and water solution. Soak the garments for up to eight hours. After eight hours, check the garments to see if the stain is gone. If the stain is not gone, prepare a fresh batch of oxygen-based bleach solution. Soak the garment again. Repeat the soaking step as often as needed until the stain is gone.

  3. Add vinegar

After the stain is gone, add a cup of white distilled vinegar and laundry detergent to a washing machine full of water in order to prevent further bleeding.

  4. Wash the garments

Wash the garments as usual in the vinegar and detergent solution. Make sure treat the stains as soon as possible before drying the garment.
