There are several removal techniques for makeup stains on different types of materials. Washable fibers, such as cotton, linen, nylon, polyester and acrylic fabric, are some of the most common materials that get stained with makeup. To remove eyeliner from your clothes, HowStuffWorks recommends identifying the stained material and following the specific steps below for washable fibers.
Brush away excess stain
Gently remove dried stains or blot away any excess. Brush carefully to avoid spreading the stain.
Apply dry-cleaning solvent and dry spotter
Flush the stain with a dry-cleaning solvent, and then apply a dry spotter. Soak a piece of cloth with the dry spotter, and place the cloth over the stain.
Check the stain
Examine the stain every once in a while. Before changing the pad, perform tamping, which is the method of doing light strokes on stained fabrics. Continue soaking the cloth with the dry spotter and tamping alternately until no stain remains.
Flush with the dry-cleaning solvent
Leave your clothing to dry after flushing. If the stain remains, repeat the procedure of soaking and tamping. Additionally, use a wet spotter and a few drops of ammonia. Once the stain is removed, clean the area with water to get rid of any ammonia residue. Launder the clothing immediately.
