To remove limescale from a kettle, fill the kettle up a quarter of the way full with a weak household acid, let it sit, add water, and boil the kettle. Repeat as necessary to remove any remaining limescale deposits.Know More
Lemon juice, lime juice and vinegar are all weak acids that dissolve limescale deposits. Lime juice is slightly stronger than lemon juice or vinegar. Weak acids work better than scrubbing because they don't harm the surface of the kettle like scrubbing can.
Fill the kettle up a quarter of the way with the acid. Soak the kettle for an hour to an hour and a half so the acid has time to work.
Fill the kettle up with water to dilute the acid. Don't fill it above the max line, as it can overflow.
Bring the kettle a boil. Take the kettle off the heat. Let the kettle cool slightly. Dump out the water before it becomes cold.
Use a little soap and water to rinse out the kettle. The oils in lemon juice can stay in the kettle, as can the taste of vinegar. You want to be sure you remove the acids completely before using the kettle again.
If the limescale is still built up, repeat the process again.
