Q:

What are irregular shapes?

A:

Irregular shapes are those with sides of different lengths and angles that are unequal. Regular shapes have sides with equal lengths and have angles of the same size.

Shapes like squares and equilateral triangles are considered regular shapes because they have predictably identical sides and angles. If a person were to take an equilateral triangle and make each of the sides different lengths and change the size of each angle, the regular-shaped triangle would turn into an irregular shape. Irregular shapes do not have to look messy or weird, though; a shape that resembles a rectangle with a chunk cut out of it can be considered irregular, even though it is composed of straight lines and has a neat and orderly appearance.

What are some names of irregular shapes?

    A:

Unlike a regular shape, an irregular shape is a polygon with sides that aren't all equal and unequal angles. Some conventional geometric shapes, such as the rectangle, parallelogram and rhombus, are irregular. A rectangle has four 90 degree angles, but its sides aren't all the same length. A rhombus and parallelogram both have four equal sides, but they each have two inward angles and two outward angles.

    What are the tangram shapes?

    A:

A tangram set is made up of one square, one parallelogram and five triangles. Two of the triangles are small at half the size of the square. One triangle is three times the size of the small triangles, and two triangles are six times the size of the small triangles.
