Some of the most influential songs in the history of Indian cinema were composed by Shankar-Jaikishan, a musical direction/composition duo featuring Shankarsingh Raghwanshi and Jaikishen Dayabhai Panchal. Composing music for the lyrics of Hasrat Jaipuri, the duo created such memorable tunes as "Ranhaiya," "Anari," "Kal Aaj Aur Kal," and "Barsaat." Many of the duo's best tunes were sung in films by Lata Mangeshkar.
