The Sublime entry in the relatively budget-priced Playlist Your Way collection, an attempt at "going green" by providing an "eco-friendly" package bereft of liner notes and photos, as well as a digital download card that provides access to a "biographical podcast" and a "special music download offer," features 12 cuts from the popular ska-punk revivalists, including "Santeria," "What I Got," and "Badfish." At two tracks longer than 1999's Greatest Hits, it's a fair assessment of the group's short career, but fans looking for a little more to sink their teeth into would be better off picking up 2005's double-disc Gold collection. [Playlist Your Way is also available in a clean version, which omits any and all words that may be offensive to people who just bought a record with the songs "Smoke Two Joints" and "Date Rape" on it.]

Pieced together rather quickly, Robbin' the Hood wasn't really intended to be the follow-up to Sublime's debut, 40 Oz. to Freedom, but what is shocking is how much better the record is than its predecessor. Boasting a wider range of influences -- including elements of reggae and old-school hip-hop -- the record is a loose, infectious blend of styles that rides along on its own sense of energy. Brad Nowell's songwriting might still be at a rudimentary level, but the group sounds more muscular and musical than before, demonstrating that the breakthrough of its sole major-label record, Sublime, wasn't an accident.

In 2002, MCA released Robbin' the Hood/Sublime, which contained two albums -- Robbin' the Hood (1996, originally released on MCA) and Sublime (1996, also originally on MCA) -- by Sublime on one compact disc.
