According to the University of Georgia, mice are found in every country, and most species occur naturally in woods and forests along with the common or Norway rats.
Live Science describes the main varieties of the common mouse as domestic mice, fancy mice, zebra mice and spiny mice, all of which are raised in captivity as pets, as breeders or as show mice. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals states that fancy mice come in a number of colors and coat types, ranging from curly to satin. This type of mouse is the most common variety of pet mouse, and they can grow to be twice the size of an albino or white domestic mouse.
