1867 1868 Indian Reservation Policy?

Answer

An Indian reservation policy was established by the Indian Peace Commission in 1867 with the signing of the Medicine Lodge Treaty. The final report came in 1868. The Indian Peace Commission decided that it was best to remove hostile tribes and more reservations away from the trail of the westward expansions. The goal was to stop the uprisings and protect American settlers who were relocating to the west. Members of the peace commission included Lieutenant General William T. Sherman, and Major General William S. Harney.
