# Calorific Value of Coal?

The calorific value of coal is the value of the amount of energy coal produces. This is the heating value expressed. It is the measurement of the amount of heat produced during the combustion of a stated amount of coal. The calorific value of coal equates to 15,000 to 27,000 kJ/kg or 8,000 to 14,000 Btu/lb. This is the gross calorific value, or GCV rating for lignite and anthrasite types of coal. This value can differ under various circumstances.
