Customer Service Skills?

Answer

Customer service has become more important now than ever before. It's not just about providing service to a customer either. Customer service skills often entail the ability to communicate effectively with coworkers as much as the customer.

Perhaps the most important customer service skill is the ability to listen to others _ really listen. You can't solve a problem without stopping to hear all aspects of the problem first. And, most people feel better after they have been heard. If you can listen and listen thoughtfully, you'll be much better prepared to help. It's not always what you say; it's how you say it. Speaking in a polite fashion can soften a difficult blow as much as saying something rude can undo the best solution. Say please and thank you. Use a courteous tone that tells the other person(s) 'I care.' Avoid being confrontational or defensive. Finally, once you've clearly and courteously communicated with another person, make sure to follow-through on any agreements you've made.
