Northeast monsoon also known as the retreating monsoon is defined as seasonally reversing wind that is accompanied by rain that occurs around the month of September over the Indian subcontinent. Northeast monsoon is caused by air pressure building over northern parts of India and the Indian Ocean and the surrounding atmosphere continues to hold the heat. It is characterized by cold wind sweeping down from the Himalayas and Indo-Gangetic Plain down to the Deccan peninsula.
