Vinegar can be used as a natural antibacterial in the home. However, it lacks the potency of commercial cleansers, and does not have the ability to destroy all types of salmonella. There are a few strains of salmonella which form biofilms (thick layers of slime) in warm, moist conditions. These bacteria, by virtue of their protective coating, are impenetrable to the acidity of vinegar.
