A melodrama is a film or play that involves oversaturation of theatrics involving emotions. Often times these plays or films are accompanied by orchestral music to try to increase the emotional response by the viewer and keep them interested. An example of melodrama would be a play about a heroic character saving his true love from an evil villain who has kidnapped her and also loves her. The main character must rescue her while dealing with emotions from love and sadness from tragedy.
