Exercise after Abdominal Surgery?

Answer

The safest exercise to do shortly after abdominal surgery is walking. But even walking needs to be approved by one's physician to reduce any chance of slowing the recovery period. When one is cleared by a doctor to begin walking, the walking distance at first should be no more than around the house or the length of a driveway. Each day the distance walked can be longer, but it needs to always be on a flat surface. After a period fo six weeks or so, the doctor will probably allow the patient to increase the level of physical activity.
