How Long Do Yellow Jackets Live?

Yellow Jackets are a type of ground-nesting wasp which are similar to bees and hornets and are black and yellow in color. Yellow jackets live in colonies which involve a queen yellow jacket and anywhere from 4,000 to 5,00 workers. Yellow jackets will often build their nest in cavities found in walls and ceilings of buildings and small holes created by rodents. Yellow jackets live for one year because all of their colony except a fertilized queen yellow jacket will die out when the first frost of winter occurs.
