How Long Does It Take for a Caterpillar to Hatch?

Answer

A caterpillar will hatch from the egg within one to three weeks after the egg is laid. This is the second stage of the butterfly life cycle. The caterpillar will stay in this stage anywhere from several weeks to a few months. After this time, the caterpillar will find the place it wants to pupate, also known as a chrysalis. It can stay in this new shape again for up to several months before the pupa turns in to the butterfly. An adult butterfly can live anywhere from a few weeks to 8 months.
