An itchy eardrum can be caused by a variety of factors. Itchy ears can be frustrating and even interfere with daily life. The itching may be accompanied by inflamed skin or redness. The itchiness may simply be due to a build up of earwax. Moisture can build up around the blockage causing the itch. Itching can also be a sign of swimmers ear, or by a fungal infection. While it is tempting to scratch the ear with a foreign object, such as a Q-tip, this can damage the ear drum and is not recommended.
