There are countless acid types, acid comes from the Latin word acidus meaning sour. Therefor in generally considered, when it resolves in water it gives the solution with a hydrogen ion activity grater then in pour water, a ph less then 7.0 then you have a form of acid. The lower the ph the stronger the acid.
