Oil is important to southwest Asia for many reasons. More than half of the worlds crude oil reserves are underneath southwest Asia. There are also large reserves of natural gas. This oil helps the country meet their fuel needs for transportation and electricity.The money that the oil brings in has gone to improving the countries medical care, roads, and to bring in more modern buildings. Life expectancy of the local people has risen 15 years, and infant mortality has drastically decreased.
