What are agro-based industries?

Answer

Agro, or agriculture-based industries deal with growing plants and food for consumer use and consumption. Three basic levels exist in agriculture businesses.

  • Small: family-owned and small-village companies such as boutique farms that deal in micro-greens, for instance, or organic produce that is sold to local restaurants. Farmers markets have rows and rows of booths presented by small agro-based companies.
  • Medium: These are industries with some automation and 10 to 25 employees. Examples would be edible oils producers, dairy farms, and rose growers.
  • Large: Automation and sizable equipment are the hallmark of a large agro-business. Cattle feed growers, greenhouses, and poultry farmers are examples.
