There are rumors that Amazon's soon-to-be-released Kindle Fire is a 'stopgap' product to take advantage of the upcoming holidays season, with their real tablet (iPad competitor?) coming out in Q1 2012 (maybe as early as January). I have no way of validating this rumor, so the following question is based purely on speculation.
Assuming the rumor might be true, is this a crazy idea? Will consumers be reluctant to buy a stopgap product knowing that a 'bigger better' product might be waiting in the wings? Given that there have been so many failures and false starts in this market segment, should Amazon make some sort of statement to quell these fears - or just wait until the product launch?
