In the story of Beowulf, he is considered a legendary hero by many because he protected the innocent and fought off the monsters/creature (Grendel) that sought to kill and destroy the land and its people. Beowulf was able to be a one man army in the physical nature and an intelligent and resourceful individual. Not only did Beowulf do these things he also outwitted a wicked spirit that came to him and many as a beautiful woman figure.
