Blood Pooling in Feet?

Answer

The heart pumps blood through the arteries under high pressure. As the arteries branch out into smaller arteries and capillaries, pressure decreases. Once the blood reaches the feet, the pressure has decreased so it relies on back pressure to move back up to the heart. Muscle activity squeezes the vein and pushes the blood along. There are little valves along the way that keep the blood from draining backward as it is being pushed. When muscle movement is lost, the blood pools in your feet and legs, and water seeps from the veins out into the surrounding tissue and cause your feet and legs to swell.
