Can Low Iron Cause Headaches?

Answer

Having low iron can cause headaches, depression, fatigue, listlessness, weakness, decreased work productivity, poor memory, irritability, dizziness, appetite loss, constipation, difficulty swallowing, joint soreness, and asthma, just to name a few symptoms. People that are at a high risk for iron deficiency are babies who were given cows milk instead of breast milk or iron fortified formula; children one through four years old are at risk because of rapid growth, unless iron fortified food or supplements are given; teenagers, because of rapid growth rates and poor eating habits; women using an IUD, because they generally have heavier periods; and pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women.
