Can you get pregnant when your tubes are tied?

According to WebMD, a woman cannot become pregnant after she has had her tubes tied. The procedure's correct medical name is "tubal ligation" and it is considered a permanent method of birth control.

WebMD states that gynecologists typically perform tubal ligation or tubal implants, but general surgeons and family medicine doctors can also perform both procedures. Several methods of tubal ligation exist, including one in which the tubes are cut and stitched and another in which the tubes are burned closed. Unlike tubal ligation, tubal implants do not require surgery. Tubal implants instead involve the insertion of small metal springs into each fallopian tube, which eventually leads to a permanent blockage.
