It is not recommended that people take Claritin and Benadryl together. Both medications are used to treat the same condition and serve the same function. Taking them together can cause adverse reactions or overdose.

Claritin and Benadryl are both antihistamines, although each have different active ingredients. Taking these medications together can be done however there might be some adverse effects resulting from it. Sedation is a possible side effect since Benadryl is slow releasing and can cause sedation, as compared to Claritin which is fast-releasing and has no sedative effects. It is best to consult a doctor if one plans to take them together.
