Can you undermount sinks with laminate countertops?

Laminate counter tops are easily installed with undermount sinks, according to Formica Corporation, providing the sink meets certain requirements. The undermount sink must include a 1-inch wide, machined-flat rim made from a resin material. The rim must create a 90 degree angle where it meets the bowl wall.

Kitchen sink manufacturer Karran USA offers seamless, undermount sinks meeting all requirements, with their Acrylic or Edge Series product lines. A solid surface adhesive is bonded directly to the back of high pressure laminate, preventing moisture seepage while improving counter top hygiene and aesthetics. Karran adds that many stainless steel sinks do not meet this specification due to steel rolled rims, so consumers should verify to ensure intended results.
