There is the VIN number, SBC casting number, BBC casting number, suffix codes, date code, and the factory hydraulic roller SBC code. These engine ID numbers can be found on various parts of the engine too. The VIN number is cast on the side of the engine block. The date code is also cast into the engine blocks outer casing. There are diagrams available that show the location of various ID numbers online.
