Each corporation also must have an employer identification number, known as an EIN. This federal tax identification number is often referred to as the corporate ID number. A federal EIN is required for all corporations. It is a nine-digit number that is assigned to only one corporation. The EIN is used in all banking and taxation transactions.

Go to the IRS website (irs.gov). You can file for a number on-line but you need to check with your state first to see if you need a state number or charter.
