The definition of an acid is a substance that reacts with a base. There are 3 basic types of acids are; Arrhenius, Brønsted-Lowry and the Lewis definition. The Arrhenius definition describes how the acid is a substance that increases the concentration in the hydronium ion. The Bronsted and Lowery definition is based off of the study that acid based reactions involved the transfer of a proton. Lastly the Lewis definition is based off of the idea that acid based reactions do not involve a proton to transfer.
