Yes, air intake system saves gas mileage for old cars. Air intake system provides a higher volume of cooler air which contains a higher concentration on oxygen. These extra oxygen gives increase efficiency and greater combustion. Newer cars though only have little effect since it has advance or sophisticated engine control that monitors airflow and adjust mixture of fuel and air in optimum ratio.
