Contestants on "The X Factor" do not receive any pay. The show retains the rights to both the footage of contestants and their voices, and are allowed to use both of these things for profit. The contestants, however, are not entitled to any royalties. Moreover, the show has the right to distribute contestants' personal information.

After contestants appears on the show, they are expected to promote "The X Factor" for a month after the season has been on the air. During that time, contests have to get permission from the production company to appear on any television or radio programs.
