The emission spectrum of atomic hydrogen is separated into several spectral series, with wavelengths offered by the Rydberg formula. The spectrum is created when an electric current is passed through a glass tube that has hydrogen gas at low pressure which makes the tube to give off blue light. Four thin bands of bright light are seen against a black background when this light is passed through a prism.
