What Is Ethnonationalism?

Answer

Ethnonationalism is a nationalism based on ethnic origin. While some forms of nationalism is based on geography or common causes, ethnonationalists rally around the particular subset of their racial group. A propensity to strive for tribal supremacy is an example of ethnonationalism. In the most extreme cases, the members of an ethnic group rally around common ancestry and demand identification as a nation. For example, the massacre of 1 million civilians of the Tutsi population in Rwanda by Hutu clansman was under girded by inflamed 'Hutu power' (Hutu nationalistic cry) sentiment.
