Nat Love was the most famous black cowboy of all. He was born a slave in Tennessee. Nat found an outfit heading back to Texas, and asked the trailboss for a job.The boss told him if he could break a horse named Good Eye, the wildest horse in the outfit, he had a job. Nat broke the horse. Other famous black cowboys were Bose Ikard, and Bill Pickett. . Bose Ikard was born into slavery in Tennessee. When Bose was a young boy, the slave holder took him to Texas still in bondage to work on a cattle Ranch. After gaining his freedom, he went to work for Charles Goodnight. The character, Joshua Deets portrayed by Danny Glover in the movie Lonesome Dove, is based on Bose Ikard. Bill Pickett invented the sport of bulldogging. He died in 1932 as a result of injuries received from working horses at the 101 Ranch near Ponca City, OK.
