# Formula for Maximum Occupancy?

Maximum room occupancy is often used by a fire marshal to determine the amount of people that can fit into a room safely. While the formula for maximum occupancy can vary greatly depending upon the location and the laws of the state, the average formula that is reported to be used is the square footage of the room divided by 36. Typically, additional room for tables, chairs and other furniture is often taken into consideration.
