Headright System?

Answer

When Virginia was being colonized, one law that was established was the Headright. The Headright System ensured that if anybody paid for another to come to Virginia or settled there themselves, they each received 50 acres per head. Sometimes, people did not claim the land right away, so there were cases of fraud where some people found the paper that entitled someone else to the land and they claimed it for themselves. Other people sold their headrights to others as they did not want the land.
